The Deputy Chairperson of the Ghanaian community in South Africa, Tina Buxton, has stated that a significant number of Ghanaian migrants in South Africa are willing to return home but feel constrained by economic challenges.
Speaking via Zoom on Badwam, Buxton described the situation as increasingly difficult, with migrants struggling to balance survival in South Africa against uncertainties in Ghana.
According to her, the desire to return home is widespread within the Ghanaian community, but for many, it remains an aspiration rather than a realistic option.
“Majority of Ghanaians would love to come back home, but they are coping because things are not easy in Ghana too,” she said.
She explained that many Ghanaians are not necessarily thriving abroad but are instead managing under challenging conditions, doing their best to survive while hoping for improved opportunities either in their host country or back home.
