A former Greater Accra Regional Minister, Daniel Nii Kwatei Titus Glover, has alleged that President John Dramani Mahama is jealous of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

His comment follows reports of the Lincoln University making a last minute decision not to give an honorary doctorate award to Mahama, claiming it was as a result of the president's past criticism of Akufo-Addo for receiving honorary awards.

“It was out of jealousy that President Mahama criticised Nana Akufo-Addo for receiving honorary doctorate awards while he was in opposition,” he stated.

Speaking during an interview on Adom TV’s Badwam on Friday, April 3, 2026, Titus Glover described the situation as an embarrassing moment for the president.

“It is shameful that Mr Mahama would even pursue such an award after previously criticising Nana Akufo-Addo for similar recognitions. This clearly shows a lack of principle,” he said.

He also claimed that the rejection could have been influenced by Mahama’s posturing on LGBTQ+ issues.

“Looking at the speculation surrounding why the university declined the award, it appears the president is now shifting from his earlier stance, describing the LGBTQ+ issue as not a pressing matter in Ghana,” he added.

Titus Glover further accused President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC of politicising the issue during the 2024 Election.

“It is unfortunate that this matter was used for political advantage during the 2024 Election, only for the same people to now change their position,” he stated.

Despite his criticism, he said he hopes the president would assent to the anti-LGBTQ+ bill if it is passed by Parliament.

“I will be happy if President Mahama signs the bill when it is passed, but his current posture does not show someone willing to do so,” he concluded.
