The Majority Chief Whip, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has called for strict adherence to aircraft maintenance protocols following a fatal crash involving a private plane at Tema Community 1.
Addressing Parliament on March 19, 2026, he disclosed that the aircraft crashed at Site 18, near the Oninku Primary School, resulting in the deaths of the two on board.
He explained that the victims, identified as the pilot and another individual, have since been confirmed dead, describing the incident as one that has deeply shaken residents of Tema and the nation as a whole.
“Mr Speaker, three days ago, a private helicopter crashed—it was a small plane, I should say—at Community One, Site 18 in Tema, near the Oninku Primary School. Two persons on board, the pilot and another, have since been declared dead. Mr Speaker, this matter has traumatised the nation, especially Tema,” he said.

The Majority Chief Whip noted that Parliament finds it necessary to commiserate with the bereaved families, particularly the family of the deceased, while also recognising that the crash could have led to a greater tragedy if the aircraft had landed on the school’s field.
“It is important that, as Parliament, we commiserate with the family of the two persons on board, and also the fact that it escaped crashing onto the school field of the Tema Oninku Primary School. As a House, we commiserate with them,” he indicated.
He further urged the Ghana Air Force, as well as the private company that owns the aircraft, to take maintenance issues seriously, especially as reports suggest the company operates multiple aircraft. On behalf of Parliament, he extended condolences to the bereaved family, expressing sympathy over the loss.
“We want to call the attention of the Ghana Air Force, as well as the private entity that owns this aircraft, that we are informed they own other aircraft. They should take maintenance matters seriously. Speaker, on this note, we wish the bereaved family our deepest condolences,” he stated.
