This is complete nonsense, Pratt. I am neither a lawyer nor a judge but commonsense tells me that even if the constitution guarantees the right of citizens to hold demonstrations, it does not mean that any citizen can just get up in the morning, disrupt traffic and other people's businesses and go on a demonstration. Yet if anything hapens, the same demonstrators will call for police help. Yes, every demonstration is potentially violent. This is why the demonstrators and the general public need police protection. Go wey you.

Is Pratt saying that there are demonstrations which do not need police support because they have no potential to become violent? I don't see where his argument against Baffoe-Bonnie's judgement stands.

It was not an error at all. It is rather a well considered judicial position, and signal that when push comes to shove, he is likely to side with the security of state over and above individual civil liberties. There is actually nothing wrong with that. Every where in the world and throughout history there are Judges who hold the same position that protecting or erring for the sake of law and order is better than granting and extending civil liberties. The only difference is the pretense of Christ-like neutrality in Ghana. From media analysis alone, don’t we know where each US Supreme Court Judge stands from their historical track record and understand that it is why he/she was appointed.

I disagree with Kwesi Pratt on his disagreement on his Justice Baffoe Bonnie's ruling on the issue of demonstrations. Though the constitution is clear human behaviour is most often unpredictable particularly when many people gather. You can get people who want to find and cause trouble no matter what. The presence of the police is not to intimidate but to ensure that participants are law abiding.
