Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, has expressed reservations about some of the past judicial decisions of Chief Justice nominee, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, Pratt said he disagreed with a ruling delivered by Justice Baffoe-Bonnie when he served as an additional High Court judge.

According to him, the case in question concerned the right of citizens to hold demonstrations, during which Justice Baffoe-Bonnie ruled that every demonstration is potentially violent and therefore requires police oversight.

“I disagreed with him, and I disagree with him to this day, because I believe the constitution grants the right to demonstrate. By his interpretation of the Public Order Law, he undermined the constitutional provision of free expression”, he indicated.

Despite his disagreement, he maintained that no public official is beyond reproach.

“No human being is perfect, whether as Chief Justice, President, Speaker of Parliament, or any leader. You look at a person’s track record in fullness,” he stated.

Pratt further dismissed suggestions that Justice Baffoe-Bonnie is politically biased or aligned with any party.

“How can anyone describe him as an NDC supporter or someone who will subvert the constitution for a political leader? His background and judicial practice do not support that,” he said, stressing that while judges may have made controversial rulings, that alone should not define their integrity.
