It saddens me to say that NPP may lose the next general election due to their inability to review Free SHS.
Their inability to management the academic calender alone is a big problem. Some teachers including Housemasters, the kitchen staff, administrators, Librarians, cleaners, drivers etc work all year long without any vacation and NPP never resolved this mess.
Under Free SHS policy, students spend few months in school and spend more time at home. Parents are compelled to send their wards to vacation classes at a high cost and NPP never sat down to solve this mess.
Under free SHS policy, students spend more hours in school. Go to school at 7am and close at 4:30pm instead of 2:00pm. Students who stay far from school get home late. Teachers and students are always tired for spending more hours in school and NPP closed their eyes.
Under Free SHS, students were poorly fed and NPP never failed to resolve this canker.
Under free SHS, education has been politicized. No more cut off and no more repetition. Whether a student studies hard or not he will successfully complete school.
Under Free SHS the standard of education has fallen.
Solutions
1. Adopt the trimester system.
2. Reintroduce the cut off point
3. Very Weak students must be repeated
4. Parents must pay for boarding fees
5. Parents must bear WASSCE registration fee
6. GES must collaborate with Private SHS (the government is always compelled to build new infrastructure due to the neglect of Private SHS. Many private schools has been abandoned and hence the pressure on public schools)
7. Involve experts such as the teacher unions in educational decision-making process
NPP will never listen to let me stop.

The inability of the government to come out with a proper academic calender alone is a big problem. When to vacate and when to reopen was never done orderly. There was excessive centralization of education and everything was controlled from Accra.
Again, some teachers including Housemasters, the kitchen staff, administrators, Librarians, cleaners, drivers etc work all year long without any vacation and NPP never resolved this mess.
Under Free SHS policy, students spend few months in school and spend more time at home. Parents are compelled to send their wards to vacation classes at a high cost and NPP never sat down to solve this mess after 7 years.
Under free SHS policy, students spend more hours in school. Go to school at 7am and close at 4:30pm instead of 2:00pm. Students who stay far from school get home late. Teachers and students are always tired for spending more hours in school and NPP closed their eyes.
Under Free SHS, students were poorly fed and NPP never failed to resolve this canker. Porridge without milk and bread. They eat the same food throughout the week.
Under free SHS, education has been politicized. Headmaster and teachers who criticised the weaknesses of the policy were intimidated or transfered.
Under free SHS, there is No more cut off point and no more repetition. No mechanism to compel students to study assiduously. Whether a student studies hard or not he or she will successfully complete school.
Under Free SHS the standard of education has fallen.
Solutions
1. Reintroduce the trimester system.
2. Reintroduce the cut off point
3. Very Weak students must be repeated
4. Parents must pay for boarding fees
5. Parents must bear WASSCE registration fee
6. GES must collaborate with Private SHS (the government is always compelled to build new infrastructure due to the neglect of Private SHS. Many private schools has been abandoned and hence the pressure on public schools)
7. Involve experts such as the teacher unions in educational decision-making process
NPP will never listen so let me stop.
