Ghana used to rank 8th on the list of top 10 economies in Africa. Currently Ghana ranks 11th, 3 spots down from it's 8th position. We are now surpassed by countries such us Ivory Coast, Tanzania, Angola and Kenya.

Imagine Ghana being ranked lower than Tanzania or Ivory Coast!

How did Ghana get this far? Are we Ghanaians simply careless about our economy or too complacent to hold our leaders accountable?

Very clearly you do not have a clue as to what goes into the necessity, technicalities and viability of building an airport. If you did, you would realize how ridiculous your opinion for an airport on Cape Coast is.

First of all, inter-city tourism and business in Ghana and even in Africa as a whole is so low that no serious investor or govt would put their money in an airport at an economically depressed location like Cape Coast - even with all its (albeit underdeveloped) tourism potential.

Apart from the occasional diaspora movent to Ghana, off the top of my head, I cannot see any other significant movement of people between Cape Coast and any Ghanaian or African city. Accra to Cape Coast would be the only interesting consideration but even then, the distance is so short that it means that before an aircraft reaches cruising height, it will have to start descending to land - and even here, I'm talking about small aircraft that can carry only a few passengers at a time.

Another truth is that only a few people in Ghana and indeed throughout Africa can afford to travel by air. This eliminates the viability of short-distance air travel.

Furthermore, Cape Coast and Elmina castles are among the main tourist area in Ghana: we live in a fast world, doesn't Mr Kayi think people want to get to destinations quickly? Apart from the above reasons, can't he envision roughly by 10 or 20years time life will not be the same in Cape Coast in terms of developments? Our capital Accra didn't wake up to be what it is just few days. To me, it will be wise if all regional capital will have airports.
