Why not build enough hospitals to absorb the nurses.
What is the current nurse per patient ratio in Ghana?
Our leaders are bereft of ideas.
No hope yet. We are still searching for Nkrumah II

Agree with you 100%. Why not build enough hospitals. Why not recruit them locally and try to achieve the WHO recommended patient/nurse ratio. Aah Mr ex president, are you coming back with such empty head again?

A disclaimer: I'm not affiliated with any political party in Ghana. I have nothing against former President John Mahama. I'm just a patriotic Ghanaian in the diaspora. With that out of my chest, I can now freely speak my mind. Former President Mahama does not have anything to offer Ghana. He has no ideas. He has been sitting on the bench for about 8 years; yet he has failed to do his homework -- as if Ghanaians have no problems. If the elections were held today, and he happened to come out on top, it would be disastrous for Ghana. Granted, November is a few months away: but nothing would change if he maintains the status quo. I can't figure out what he thinks of Ghana. Perhaps he is under a false illusion that, the presidency is by party rotation between the NDC and the NPP. The latter have had their turn at the helm; so time has come for the former. He is going to be sadly disappointed. Because we're not going to turn our democracy into a coronation of incompetence. Nobody is going to take Ghana granted any longer. The democracy of Ghana means a lot to me. I lost three cousins in the coup that ushered in the Fourth Republic -- and the subsequent democratic rule. My cousins did not die in vain. May Lord Almighty continue to bless our beloved Great Ghana: Amen!!!

Dear ex. President Mahama, please are you aware that the WHO has blacklisted Ghana and some 'third' world' countries as not having enough nurses and as such you cannot 'export' nurses. What Odwan funu must understand is that, there's a difference between health care support workers and registered nurses. The current wave of support workers travelling to UK mostly is because health care support workers do not fall under the WHO categorised nurses. Even with that, the UK government could not be involved in 'importing' the support workers. The individuals went on their own through private recruitment agencies. And let Odwan funu be informed that a documentary run by BBC in August 2023, showed that over 3000 of such support workers have come to UK and have no job. The very jobs they were promised by the recruitment agencies. I have personally come in contact with some Ghanaians who are so frustrated and want to return to Ghana but sadly, they don't even have money to buy tickets. Some say their parents, relatives have borrowed thousands of pounds to bring them to UK but have not been working on arr. Some say they work 8 hours a week. The lucky ones work 20 hours a week which is not enough to even pay a week's rent. The British Home office which is responsible for immigration has got to know that the nursing homes officials have turned the recruitment of support workers into a commercial venture. They are visiting the nursing homes and tracking the migrated support workers. They are giving such people 2 months to find a job after which your COS- certificate of sponsorship will be revoked if you haven't found a job. Note, if you came as a main applicant, you can only work in the nursing care homes.
This is what ex president Mahama and his clueless bunch of advisors or handlers must know and stop deceiving the poor nursing students. Mahama is talking out of pure ignorance. Odwan funu please come again
