The Deputy National Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has issued a strong warning to the party’s former Member of Parliament for Kumbungu, Ras Mubarak, and the current Member of Parliament for Hohoe, Worlanyo Tsekpo, over their recent social media spat.
Reacting to a recent disagreement on social media between the two senior party members over the three-day “Thank You Tour” recently undertaken by the National Chairman of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, Mustapha Gbande described the conflict as a needless distraction for the party and the government.
He warned of serious repercussions if the former MP and the MP ever engage in such a public spat again.
“This issue of needless distraction and conversation around ‘the Chief of Staff is doing this’ or ‘this one is doing that’—there is no trouble in the NDC, so why are we trying to invite trouble? Ras Mubarak and the MP from Hohoe, the next time they do such a thing, we are going to invite them and reprimand them,” he stated on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen program.

He emphasised that the NDC, as a party, is not run on social media and that anyone with concerns or grievances should use internal mechanisms instead of ranting on social media.
“You are talking to a deputy general secretary, for God’s sake. I was elected to manage this party, and I am saying that we don’t run our party on social media. The MP who responded doesn’t understand communication better than the National Chairman. This is what brings distraction. The general secretary is very much alive; he is in charge of this party. He has deputies—myself and Barbara—and we are in charge of this party. We have a national organiser. If something is wrong, we will act upon it. It is not for you to be on social media, without talking to your party leadership, determining what is legal and what is not. Is he a party officer? We don’t want the party to be rocked with needless distractions,” he said.
Ras Mubarak, in a Facebook post on September 17, 2025, accused the National Chairman of the NDC of setting a dangerous precedent and causing what he described as an unnecessary distraction to the ruling NDC government by embarking on a Thank You Tour.
He alluded that the National Chairman, who is reported to be nursing flagbearer ambitions, is seeking to hide under the tour to advance a “premature presidential ambition.”
In response, Worlanyo Tsekpo also took to Facebook to dismiss Ras Mubarak’s concerns, insisting that the NDC is a democratic party where such matters could be addressed through internal structures.

The engagement between the two comes on the back of concerns about some leading members of the party who are said to be nurturing presidential ambitions, using their positions and influence to advance their goals.
However, speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Mustapha Gbande insisted that party leaders and government officials have a duty to engage with Ghanaians and electorates, and that any attempt to disagree over such engagement would only breed undue wrangling within the party.
“Let people go to the ground. We want more ministers to go to the ground and work. They should go to the grassroots and meet them,” he stated.
