The Asante Kingdom, led by its ruler, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is holding a one-week observation of the death of its queen mother, the Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, on Thursday, August 21, 2025.

Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II announced the demise of the Asantehemaa on August 11, 2025.

Visuals of the one-week observation show the rich culture of Asanteman on display.

Almost all the paramount queen mothers of Asanteman are at the event.

In one of the videos, it captured scenes of women of Asanteman wailing as part of their traditions.

Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III is dead

One eye-catching feature of the event has been the involvement of priestesses of the Asante Kingdom.

A number of priestesses were captured performing rituals on the streets leading to the Manhyia Palace and also within the palace.

As expected, the traditional drums of Asante culture sounded and were accompanied by beautiful displays of various cultural dances.

Ahead of the event, the Asanteman Council issued strict guidelines on dressing.

Born Nana Ama Konadu, Nana Konadu Yiadom III was the 14th Asantehemaa and the biological sister of the current Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

She became the Asantehemaa in 2020, following the death of her mother, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, the then Asantehemaa.

Nana Konadu Yiadom, the second most powerful person in Asanteman, was respected for her loyalty, counsel, strength, and devotion to tradition.
