Several parts of the nation’s capital, Accra, have been left underwater after the heavy downpour on Wednesday, May 22, 2024.

Reports indicate that parts of East Legon, Kaneshie, Circle, the Airport area, Mallam, Mataheko, and Accra Central are heavily flooded due to the rainstorm.

The flooding has led to an obstruction in the flow of vehicular traffic on the Kaneshie to Mallam stretch of the Kasoa Highway, the Central Business District, and Odawna, among other areas.

Videos from some of the flooded areas show many commuters stranded as drivers of public transport vehicles and private cars have parked their cars for the rain to subside, while others carefully drive through the flood, which covered most of the road.

GhanaWeb's team captured footage of parts of East Legon completely submerged underwater. The flooding rendered stretches of road in the area impassable, severely hindering vehicular movement.

Also, a video shared on social media sighted by GhanaWeb, shows a group of men trying to save a car that was being washed away by the flood.
