Social media users react to Otto Addo's sacking

Some social media users have criticised the dismissal of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo following two defeats in international friendlies on March 31, 2026.

The team was humiliated by Austria in a 5–1 defeat and later lost 2–1 to Germany, results that proved costly for the coach.

The GFA released an official statement on March 31, 2026, announcing that they had parted ways with Addo and expressed their appreciation for his efforts with the team.

It was noted that further communication regarding the next steps for the technical team would be made in due course.

Although some Ghanaians had earlier called for his dismissal, many fans criticized both the decision and the manner in which it was carried out once it happened.

They argued that with only four months to the World Cup, it was not prudent to sack a coach who had qualified the team and had been in charge for some time, despite recent setbacks.

Others described the move as an “unfair decision” to the coach and his family, considering the timing and the potential impact on his career.

Meanwhile, a section of fans welcomed the decision, insisting that his performances were poor and that he should have been replaced earlier to allow a new coach time to prepare the team for the World Cup.

They added that with the caliber of players in the squad, a capable coach could get the best out of them and help Ghana excel at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
