The Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, says his resolve to contest the flagbearer position of the largest opposition political party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is to a make a big difference in the Ghanaian political landscape.

One big difference he wants to make and be remembered for generations to come, he told kasapafmonline.com in an exclusive interview, Wednesday, is to create realistic jobs for the teeming unemployed to help alleviate poverty in the society.

For instance, he said the agricultural sector presents a big opportunity to create thousands of jobs to help increase the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Hon. Bagbin who is highly tipped to win the vacant NDC flagbearer position said complementing rain-fed agriculture with irrigation farming and changing strategies to climate-smart agriculture will help open up the Ghanaian economy after creating thousands of jobs for the unemployed.

In the agricultural value-chain for example, the former Minister of Health said he could create tens of thousands of jobs by not focusing alone on establishing industries that will feed on the raw materials but also building on the capacities of thousands of people that will go into research and learn best farming technologies to help transform the sector.

The establishment of warehouses in all the farming communities, he added, also presents huge employment opportunities for the teeming unemployed youth.

This, according to Hon. Bagbin, will not be done in haste but rather through a pragmatic approach where those who will be engaged to manage those facilities will be trained on best practices in storing food in warehouses.

With these, the Nadowli/Kaleo lawmaker is of the firm belief that the agricultural sector will be revolutionized and Ghana will be a better place to live.
