Govt Pleads For Tarzan's Return

.... DIRECTORS SENT TO PERSUADE WORKERS
.... WORKERS STILL DON'T WANT TARZAN

A series of meetings have taken place in the last week between government and representatives of the Volta River Authority (VRA) on the return to post by “step-aside” chief Executive, Dr Charles Wereko Brobby. Emissaries were dispatched to inform the staff of the government’s decision to recall the chief executive.

The "Chronicle" has been reliably informed that sometime last week, Energy Minister, Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom met management of the authority, made up of the acting Chief Executive, Jabesh Amissah, the Finance Director and one other, over the issue and the outcome was that government wants Dr Wereko Brobby back at post.

Management inturn relayed the message to the directors who were charged with “softening” the ground by asking workers to accept Dr Wereko Bobby’s return as head on an interim management committee that is to be formed to run the affairs of the authority.

The directors’ meeting took place on Tuesday and on Wednesday, they commenced talking to the staff.

The Chronicle says management therefore pleaded with the workers to accept the government’s position, but the over 3,000 workforce is said to be in disagreement and have repeated their earlier statement that “it will be better for one man to die than for the nation to perish”.

For the second time in less than two months, President Kufuor interacted with workers representatives on Thursday.

The workers reportedly told the President that the ministerial committee failed to address some matters raised in the allegations against Dr Wereko-Brobby.

President Kufuor asked them to go and prepare those unattended issues and present them to him in two weeks.
