Diasporan Vote: Opposition parties to hold Press Conference

Accra, March 10, GNA - Opposition political parties have criticised the manner in which the Representation of the People (Amendment) Bill was laid before Parliament on Tuesday, March 9.
The Bill laid before Parliament under a Certificate of Urgency, sought to enable Ghanaians, who reside abroad to register and vote in public elections in the country.
A communique issued by the parties at the end of a meeting held in Accra on Wednesday and attended by their representatives said: " it was agreed that while the opposition parties do not object in principle to enfranchising fellow Ghanaians abroad, the circumstances under which the proposed amendment has been laid before Parliament raises serious concern."
They have therefore, decided to hold a joint press conference tomorrow, Thursday, March 11, at the KAMA Conference centre to state their concerns and opposition to the Government's haste.
The meeting was attended by Professor John Atta Mills, Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress, Dr Edward Mahama, PNC Leader, Mr Dan Lartey, GCPP Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter, Kpordugbe, NRP Chairman, Mr Johnny Hansen, CPP National Vice Chairman and Mr. Danny Ofori Atta, Chairman of Council of Elders of EGLE.
The rest are, Mr Gabriel Pwamang, General Secretary of PNC, Professor Nii Noi Dowuona, General Secretary of CPP, Mr Kyeretwie Opoku, General Secretary of the National Reform Party (NRP), Mr John Amekah, General Secretary of the GCPP and Alhaji Al-Hassan Bene, General Secretary of the EGLE.
