Daily Graphic Editor elected GJA President

Accra, Aug. 21, GNA - Mr Yaw Boadu-Ayeboafoh, Editor of Daily Graphic Newspaper on Thursday polled 290 votes as against 256 votes for Mr Yaw Owusu-Addo, Director of Radio, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, to win the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Presidential election. Mr Affail Monney of GBC polled 326 votes to beat Mr Ken Nunnoo of Ghanaian Times who had 216, while Ms Yaa Oforiwaa Acquah of Ghana News Agency had 286 votes to beat Ms Tina Aforo-Yebaoh of Ghanaian Times, who polled 261 votes.

Mr Matthew Mac-Kwame of Ghana Institute of Journalism and Mr James MaCauley of Ghanaian Times won the two Executive Members positions with 354 and 333, respectively.

Mr Francis Dentah, Senior Electoral Officer of the Electoral Commission, announced the results and declared the officers duly elected.

Mr Owusu-Addo, who is the incumbent Vice President conceded defeat just after the declaration of the result and pledged to work closely with the President-Elect.

Regional Statistics from the Electoral Officers compiled by the Ghana News Agency showed that Mr Boadu-Ayeboafoh had ten votes in Western Region, four votes in Central, nine votes in the Volta and 13 in the Eastern Region.

The rest are Ashanti Region 12 votes, Brong Ahafo Region five votes, Northern Region five votes, Upper East Region three votes and Upper West Region three votes.

In the Greater Accra Region the President Elect had 79 votes at GBC, 19 votes at GNA; 41 votes at Graphic, 25 votes at New Times, 15 votes at TV3 and 43 votes at the Press Centre and four votes at Tema. Mr Owusu-Addo had seven votes in the Western Region, six votes in the Central Region, three votes in Volta Region, six votes in Eastern Region, nine votes in Ashanti Region, four votes in the Brong Ahafo Region, seven votes in the Northern Region, 15 votes in the Upper East Region and 8 votes in the Upper West Region.

In the Greater Accra Region, Mr Owusu-Addo had 100 votes at GBC, 30 votes at GNA, seven votes at Graphic, eight votes at New Times, three votes at TV3, 38 votes at the Press Centre and five at Tema. 21 Aug. 2003
