Police in Ashaiman have arrested eight market women at the Ashaiman market for stubbornly showing up to sell their wares despite warnings to keep off today, Monday, 23rd March for a disinfection exercise.

They were arrested by the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly taskforce at the Mandela market in defiance of the president’s directive. They were handed over to the police who also handed them to Health officials for tests.

All markets in the Greater Accra Region closed down for a disinfection exercise today Monday.

The exercise has become necessary following the confirmation of over a dozen case of COVID-19 in Ghana. At the Makola Market, which is considered the centre of all trading activities in Ghana, all traders had heeded the directive to close their shops to allow the exercise to be conducted. As at this afternoon, the market was empty with very few human movements around.
