Allow EC do its work - Zango Communication Team to opposers of new voters register

EC Chairperson Jean Mensa EC Chairperson Jean Mensa

A group by name Zango Communicators Team has declared its backing for the Electoral Commission over its decision to compile a new voters’ register.

The EC’s proposal for a new register for the 2020 elections has been met with stiff opposition by some political parties and civil society organizations.

Earlier today, the interparty resistance against the compilation of a new voters’ register held their second demonstration in the Ashanti regional capital of Kumasi.

The demonstration is part of a series of activities lined up by the parties to pressurize the EC into shelving its plans for a new register.

But the group in a statement argued that the EC is acting within its mandate.

While acknowledging the parties’ right to protest, the group said that the credibility of the upcoming elections depends on a ‘clean and modern’ electoral register.

“If a new voters register is what will bring about electoral integrity, then, we in the Zango communicators team will ask that, the Electoral Commission be allowed to carry out its legal mandate by compiling new voters register to ensure electoral integrity”.

“We can't all behave like the opposition. There must be well meaning Ghanaians who have the interest of the state as paramount commitment to true democratic accountability”.
