Sarpong: Grant has no excuse for staying abroad

Joseph Emmanuel Sarpong, coach of newly-promoted Ghana Premier League side Ebusua Dwarfs, has slammed Avram Grant’s ‘pretext’ for his continues neglect of the local topflight.

The Israeli, for the umpteenth time, stated in a local television interview on Wednesday that his continuous stay in Europe is to afford him the chance to keep tabs on foreign-based Ghanaian players.

According to Grant, outstanding players in the domestic league tend to pursue moves abroad, depriving the league of quality players worth monitoring.

“That is his opinion and evaluation of the situation. He is entitled to it,” Sarpong told Gazzetta Ghana.

“But honestly, if he is talking about player exodus, then the question is: ‘How many players leave Ghana every year as compared to the number of Ghanaian players in European clubs?’

“Even if he has those reservations, why can’t he stay to offer technical advice to his employers?

“For me, he doesn’t have anything to complain of so he must keep mute.”

Sarpong is one of Premier League coaches expected to be present at Grant’s first seminar for local coaches on Friday.
