If you wake up one fine morning and decided to take a trip to the middle east, walk around a black stone in circles. And then fly back home, it is your choice. You must fully pay for it. Do not look for any subsidy from the government to take such a trip if you do not have the money. Yes the price of aviation fuel is up. Price hike is to be expected. Waste of government resources!!

Who cares if you are charged a nothing or a billion dollars? The government should get out of this hajj business. There should be no sponsorships to the muslim pilgrims - go on your pilgrimage at your own expense.

"It is worrying to note however that, though the 2014 Hajj fare remains unchanged (US $3450) in dollar term, its equivalent value in cedis has ballooned to 100million old cedis . Thus, within a space of a year, Ghanaian pilgrims will have to cough an extra 32 milliion old cedis more than they paid last year."

Why are some people so stupid? So these so-called "Concerned Citizens" don't know the simple fact that it takes more cedis to purchase dollars when the value of the cedi falls? Or they want the government to pay the difference? Performing the Hajj is not obligatory for Muslims who can't afford it. So it's not "compulsory-by-force".

You piece was very educative and good but you when over board in the last paragraph when you trying to introduce politics into your nice piece. (Additionally, the government should come clean on the details and the nature of sponsorships it gives to Muslim pilgrims. What is known is that , but for the few hundreds of party foot soldiers that receive sponsorships from the public purse , every other pilgrim bears the full cost which covers all their expenses including airfare, feeding, accommodation and administrative charges.) That's it. Anyway it is a nice reminder.

the piece i believe is trying to expose the incompetency of the mahama administration and how it impacts on our individual and organisational lives, and to make it clare to some of u who do not understand how things happen during hajj. govt does not subsidise hajj, but his policies could affect our religious activities since we cannot fullfil them as required.we dont need subsidy to go to hajj, all we ask for is good administration of the state economy so that it wouldnt have any negative impact on our activities as muslims. Today is the muslims and tomorrow might be u. great piece sam and keep it up.

IF upon all this economic hardship, government want us to pay this ransom before performing Hajj. Where then is our faith us muslims in this country. Gov't must do something about it. Muslims should not be punished as a result of Gov't inability to stabilize the Cedis. So Gov't should do something not to let us see him as our enemy in Islam.
