However, in the midst of our sadness it is instructive that we address important issues about governance, which Jake was instrumental and active participant in the Kufour government. What I mean is the dilapidated state of our hospitals.
Jake died 'lavishly' in a London hospital - I presume in a state of the art hospital because he could afford it.
Jake was in Kufuor's cabinet when the cabinet approved initially $30 million to build Jubilee House - a contract that was given to a company in India, costing the nation over $120 million in the end and still counting. They built a presidential palace, not a hospital because they have stolen enough money they can seek treatment anywhere around the globe. Meanwhile, one of Ghana's landmark hospitals, Tete Quarshie is in serious disrepair. Korle Bu is on a life support system, not to mention other regional hospitals.
Rawlings, Kufuor and Mahama will all die in hospitals abroad, and as gullible as we are, we will beat our chests and poignantly pay tribute and last respects to their miserable lifeless bodies, knowing very well that we gave them the power to change our lives for the better and they failed.
Think about Jake dying in a plush London hospital, and wonder where you and your family would end up when the inevitable happens. We are a society devoid of critical thinking and conviction of purpose.
