The death of Jake Obetsebi Lamptey

The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has received with sadness the reported demise this early morning of Mr. Jake Obetsebi Lamptey, a former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
As a significant political player in the fourth republic, he served the nation under former President Kufour as his first Chief of Staff, Minister of Information, Minister of Tourism and Diaspora Relation, and finally as Minister of Tourism and Modernization of the Capital City.

His untiring effort to improve relations with Africans in the diaspora and modernize the capital city to promote International and Domestic tourism will not be forgotten.

Jake, as he was popularly known, will best be remembered for leading his party to victory as the Party's Campaign Manager in the December 2000 general elections which saw for the first time a ruling political party in Ghana (and Africa) hand over power to another political party in peace - instantly transforming Ghana as the beacon of hope in Africa.

On the death of this true son of Ghana, we, the PPP, extend our sincere sympathies and condolences to his family, his Party, and the entire nation.
May his soul rest in Peace, Perfect Peace.
