The role of the Media in the realization of a Unified front cannot be overemphasized. According to polls collated over decades, the Media is a very important tool(Being the voice of the people) and very important arm for fostering PEACE, UNITY,DEVELOPMENT AND HUMAN RIGHT ISSUES. Because of the sensitive nature of the obligation of journalists, there are rules that govern or rather regulate journalism world wide. One of the major problems with the modern day Africa is the fact that we tend to westernize all aspects of our lives that we tend to forget our cultural values, whereas cultural ethics further promotes unity amongst people. Most countries in Africa are infected with the Underdevelopment syndrome, as it has affected our mentality so much that the systems such as JUDICIARY, POLICING and other systems created by us with the aid of our colonial masters are beginning to work against us. Recent statistics show that most African Countries do not even reach the the average standard of POLICING and JUDICIAL OBLIGATIONS. This brings us back to the issue of a Unified front in Africa.
In the words of one of the most celebrated sons of the African soil Dr. Kwame Nkrumah......... "By far the greatest wrong
which the departing colonialists inflicted on us, and which we now continue to inflict on ourselves in our present state of
disunity, was to leave us divided into economically unviable States which bear no possibility of real development...."
"...We must unite for economic viability, first of all, and then to recover our mineral wealth in Southern Africa, so that our vast resources and capacity for development will bring prosperity for us and additional benefits for the rest of the world. That is why I have written elsewhere that the emancipation of Africa could be the emancipation of Man." Speech OAU Summit Conference Cairo 7/19/64 can be found on pages 282-4 of Revolutionary Path.
Taking the educational system in Africa for example where proper education seems to be applicable only to the rich, due to the fact that the majority of the African populace lives below the poverty margin, most Africans do not have the luxury of formal education, so they can hardly speak for themselves or defend themselves in time of crisis, so they only have to rely on the literates and the same system of government that is currently working against us in Africa.
For example some months back i took a trip to Ashaiman, in Accra Ghana, where i rented an apartment, during the process of
writing a script for an upcoming movie, i had the opportunity to meet the people of Kanawu, Adjei Kojo, SunCity, and Tema,
and other communities in Ghana, my neighbour is a very nice Ghanaian Mr. Kojo who had stayed in Nigeria for Seven years. the
people of Ashaiman, Kanawu, Adjei Kojo and other communities are very nice and peace loving people, they were so nice to me
even to a fault that i enjoyed every bit of my stay. However, there were trials, I was bullied in teshie, by some group of
boys, and on one faithful evening very close to the Ashaiman bus park, i was robbed off my wallet and my phone, i was very
dejected and i decided to narrate my ordeal to Mr. kojo who in turn narrated his ordeal with robbers in Nigeria during his
stay in Nigeria, we talked and laughed almost through the night as we discussed the menace of armed robbers in the present day society, but what baffled me was the fact that Mr. Kojo had been robbed in Nigeria, but he still had so much love for me and so much love for my country Nigeria, i asked him about his assessment of Nigerians and he told me that his experience never affected his perception about the country, neither did it dwindle the love he has for the country, i too agreed with him because i cannot allow just an experience with robbers, affect my judgment of a country of over 20 Million people knowing fully well that there are robbers everywhere around the world and even in the developed countries, and Mr Kojo also reiterated the fact that he cannot judge a country of over 160 Million people people because of an experience he had in the country, as he simply said "IT COULD HAVE HAPPENED TO ANYBODY"
Statistics shows that there are a handful of Nigerians in Ghana, and also Ghanaians in Nigeria, when the ratio of the literates and the illiterates were compared, i found out that the number of unskilled Ghanaians living in Nigeria, and unskilled Nigerians living in Ghana almost equals the number of skilled workers. Most of these unskilled Nigerians and Ghanaians can do only a little or nothing to defend themselves when their fundamental human rights are abused, so they mostly rely on the system which in turn is failing rapidly, then comes one of their last options which is the press, which in the present day i think is gradually also losing its course. I decided to put up this article because i think the COLD WAR between countries particularly Nigeria and Ghana should be put to a halt by GHANAWEB.COM. When you go online because you are literate to comment on a story or an article, by insulting a contributor's country, and trying to paint a very bad image
about a particular country knowing fully well that you have your country men in that country, you are not trying to redeem the image of your country, but only trying to promote hate and stir up a cold war between your country and the other, thereby putting your countrymen in the rival country in a bad situation, it may interest you to know that most of these people( the unskilled Ghanaians in Nigeria and unskilled Nigerians in Ghana) have only a little or nothing to defend themselves, and they cannot rely on the systems because the systems are failing, and this is the reason why when there is conflict in most parts of Africa, the casualty rate is always very high because the victims here are mostly defenceless unskilled people who are caught in between these battles which results from the sentimental incapability of bloggers who just come online to disseminate false stories and make derogatory stories online. In my opinion GHANAWEB should be a guide to foreigners in Ghana and Ghanaians in general, not a front to promote an unnecessary cold war between readers which if passed on to the street will not affect the bloggers and the contributors, but affect only the defenceless unskilled people who can hardly defend themselves. This article does not apply to Ghanaweb bloggers alone but to other websites in Nigeria and other African countries. Would you imagine entering a country for the very first time, and going online to get to know more about the
country then you find out that your country and the country you are in are in a war of words and blogs, how would you want it you affect tourists in your country. In my opinion only an uninformed Nigerian will come to a conclusion that Ghanaians are bad and violent because a Nigerian was robbed at gun-point by SHAKA THE ZULU of 4X4, just as only an uninformed Ghanain will think that all Nigerians are bad because of the activities of a few Nigerians in Ghana. In other words it makes no logical sense to either disrespect 20 Million plus Ghanaians or 160 million plus Nigerians. Hence lets be professional in our reportage in a bid to stop this stereotyping. A very good example of this happened during the 2008 CAF nations cup in Ghana, where the press reported that some Ghanaians were killed in Nigeria after Nigeria lost to Ghana, this story was found out to be unfounded and untrue, which almost caused an uproar between Nigerians and Ghanaians in Ghana, until the Ghana High commisioner to Nigeria cleared the air and labelled it a falacy. In the end only the poor defenseless masses suffered the consequences. This Stereotyping could be likened to what happened in the Rwanda Genocide where a particular tribe labelled the other as cockroaches. Certain articles publised on this site, can build up the same kind of hatred and the end product will not be good for Africa.
This is a time where Africans should come together as a unified front rather than fight and hate ourselves. I have travelled to
Seven(7) African countries studying the culture of his/her people to write stories and make movies will be geared to uniting Africa, and correcting certain notions, and there is something i have noticed, i do not know if you have noticed it too, DR KWAME NKURUMAH is a household name even the Kids know him and sing praises of him as a true African hero and son of the soil. This big question is to you my reader and fellow Ghanaweb contributor, "WHERE DO YOU STAND"?.

if you are tlking about african unity then forget it cos it could be too late. OUR FIRST PREZ NKRUMAH tried and it didn't work. ONLY ALMIGHTY GOD CAN BRING AFRICANS TOGETHER. anyway, with the ghana nigeria thing, i live here in U.S.A and i never discriminate. but my experience with nigerians soo far hasn't been good. these were ppl that i had to give up on my own family for saying bad things about nigerians. the sad thing of the matter is, they knew(de very first nigerian family i met) i gave up on my family because they never wanted me associate with them and yet they went ahead and betrayed my trust for them. it wasn't just one nigerian but different tribes of nigerians such as benee( excuse my spelling cos i don't know if my spelling is wrong),yuroba, ibo etc. they all betrayed me badly. and the sad thing is, they were not in connection to each other but they seem to have the same mentality of stealing and lying about you to others for no reason. they turn to hate you sudenly for no reason. and when you meet them and you want to tell them your past experience with nigerians, they want to know which tribe the person belongs to, and when you tell them, then they go, oooh, they are really bad people, but in the end, they end up doing the same thing or even worse. so, really with me, my experience with nigerians hasn't been good at all so i have reall adviced myself to stay far from nigerians. as for the things they did to me, i wouldn't want to mention them. as far as dating, i never date foreighners so don't even think of considering that because i only date people who understand my language and i understand theirs because transparency to me is a big deal in relationship. even in ghana, i will never consider to date someone from a tribe that has a language i don't understand. that is just me.
