The health care personnel in Ghana do not really care about their patients. They treat patients without any respect and patience. They at times threaten these poor patients when these patients express their frustration at the lack of concern by the staff .
There was a time when a nurse and a doctor refused to treat an accident patient because they have ended their shift and waiting for their reliefs . Meanwhile they were sitting in the doctor’s office and playing while the accident patient kept groaning in pain. The doctor and the nurse would have been fired if this happened in an advanced country. Health care workers are supposed to keep working even if they have ended their shifts until they are relieved by the in-coming staff . I was a witness to this happening but I was met with insults when I expressed my concern about this to both the doctor and the nurse. Patients have rights but this is trampled on by most health care workers in Ghana . The ministry of health and Ghana medical association must make sure the patients bill of rights are respected by all healthcare providers in Ghana .
