NDC to shame critics in C/R

Central region will soon be enjoying its fair share of the national cake as promises made by the ruling government since it assumed office in 2008 were gradually coming to fruition.

Developmental projects promised by both late President John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills and President John Dramani Mahama to the people of the region have begun in earnest with most of them nearing completion.

The move, Today gathered, was perhaps to thank the people for voting for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the last two elections.

And in view of that, the Central Regional Communication Team has toured some of the project sites in the region to ascertain the level of work done so far to be able to educate the populace on what government has been able to do for the people in the region.

Briefing the media during the tour in the Ekumfi and Agona West constituencies last Tuesday, the Central Regional Communication Director, Mr. Kwesi Dawood, stated that the regional executives together with the communication team decided to visit all projects sites in the region to get first-hand information on progress of work done by government.

He stated that the tour was also to silence critics and point out to them what government was doing to better the lives of people in the region.

The communicator stated that the team has so far visited eight out of the 23 constituencies and have been very impressed with the level of work done so far.

At Ekumfi, the NDC communicators inspected one of the nine communities benefitting from the first phase of the 50 Community Senior High School (SHS) project in the region at Otuam which was at the roofing level.

According to the District Chief Executive (DCE,) Mr. Ibrahim Kweku Dawson, although the district was the last to be added to the list of beneficiaries in the region, it has made so much progress.

He indicated that the school will be commissioned by September this year with four subjects namely Business, Technical, Science and General Arts.

The team also inspected the construction and rehabilitation of roads in the area as well as projects such as the magistrate bungalow which was 90% complete and waiting to be fenced for security reasons.

They also inspected the DCE’s residence and the site for the construction of the district assembly offices, staff bungalow for the District Coordinator and Finance Officer, Borehole drilling for the T I Ahmadiyya School and the Essarkyir Water project which is currently producing 200,000 gallons of water a day.

The team later visited the Agona West Municipality where the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE,) Mr. Samuel Oppong, took them to inspect the community SHS at Agona Abodom which was at the foundation stage, the royal cemetery at Agona Swedru, an ultra-modern community centre at Agona Nyakrom and the Akora river drainage project.

The 500-meter drainage project, according to the regional communication officer, will serve as a permanent solution to the flood problem at Agona Swedru.

The project—which is in fulfillment of a promised made by the late President Mills in 2010 after a major flood involving 14,646 victims and 11 deaths started in 2013 with the first phase expected to be commissioned next year.

The project will also have two additional bridges built across it to enable cars pass over it to serve as an alternative route to divert the traffic situation in the area.
