Focus on traffic laws not ban on Okada - Afotey-Agbo tells Police

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo has asked the Police to channel their resources into enforcing other road traffic laws other than the recent ban on the use of motorbikes for commercial purposes.

The Road Traffic Regulation bill which was passed by Parliament barely a week ago prohibits Okada operation in the country.

Nii Afotey Agbo has however challenged the relevance of the law, vowing that he will oppose its enforcement in the Greater Accra region.

The Motor Traffic and Transport Unit of the Ghana Police Service however stated that it will enforce the law to the latter as it is mandated to.

But in a quick reaction, Nii Afotey Agbo told XYZ News the law should not be a priority for the MTTU.

“We create laws in the interest of the people not to hurt people. If we take a decision in Parliament house and we rush to enforce it without embarking on an educative process, we would end up having problems that we are not supposed to have” Mr. Afotey Agbo said.**
