Name your running mate before the end of May - Group to Bawumia

A group calling itself the Patriotic Movement for Bawumia has urged the flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to name his running mate before the end of May 2024.

The pro-NPP group said the earlier the running mate is named, the better for the party to hit the ground with an intense campaign that will aid their victory in the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.

Addressing the media in a press conference at Kumasi on Sunday, April 21, 2024, the group emphasized that choosing a running mate will help the party cover more ground with their campaign, as whoever is chosen by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will also comb the country to propagate the party's messages.

The spokesperson for the group, who doubles as the second vice chairperson for the Oforikrom Constituency, James Aggrey Fiifi Eshun, cautioned Dr. Bawumia not to fall for any pressure from those lobbying for the position.

He described it as unnecessary how some individuals are making publicity stunts just to catch the attention of the flagbearer.

He cautioned that the running-mate position of the NPP “is not up for contest” and that the lobbying and advertisement for candidates must therefore cease.

“Pressure on Bawumia to name his running mate is unnecessary. We should give him the opportunity to select a person of his own. It is not a race so we should stop that advertisement of candidates,” he urged.
