Ama Sey hangs up anytime I call her – Kate Gyamfua

The National Women’s Organiser of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kate Gyamfua has revealed that former Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Mercy Adu-Gyamfi popularly known as Ama Sey has actively been avoiding her.

Speaking during a recent appearance on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo Morning show, Kate Gyamfua said even though she cannot explain the reason for Ama Sey’s resentment, she is ready for peace talks in the interest of the party.

"For us to be able to maintain power, everyone must get involved and for everyone the NPP has offended, you should forgive. Myself for instance, the one person who is not on speaking terms with me is Ama Sey.

"I will show the text messages I’ve sent to her to you after this; I call her and when she hears my voice, she hangs up," she said.

She disclosed plans to use a group of pastors to reconcile her differences with the former MP in the interest of the party’s campaign for the 2024 general elections.

“I am going to look for pastors to lead me so I can go and apologise to her for all of us to join hands… I will go and beg her that whatever the NPP has done to her or whichever defeat she has suffered, she should let go,” she said.

Ama Sey made history in 2016 defeating Baba Jamal, former NDC MP in a fierce contest, to become the first female MP for Akwatia.

Madam Adu-Gyamfi was elected MP on the NPP’s ticket in the 2016 general election but lost in her re-election bid in the party’s parliamentary primaries to Ernest Kumi, who eventually lost the seat to the NDC in the 2020 elections.
