Athletics record falls at Ashanti Regional Athletics competition

Kumasi, March 01, GNA - Isaac Kwakye Gyimah of Opoku Ware Senior High School on Friday set a new record in the Discuss event at the on-going Ashanti Regional Schools and Colleges Athletics Competition to beat the six-year-old record with a new throw of 41. 42 metres. The new record shattered the old record of 40. 95 metres, which was set by Raphael Kubartey formally of Opoku Ware SHS.
Opoku Ware came first with 127.5 points to win Zone One competition after they put up a brilliant performance in the 100, 5000 and 1500metres as well as the 4=D7100 relay event. Aduman SHS placed second with 67 points whilst Kumasi SHS and Nkawie Secondary/Technical School placed third and fourth respectively with 61.5 points and 58 points.
In the Girls division, Yaa Asantewaa SHS amassed 110.5 points to place first whilst Dompoase SHS placed second with 69 points. Aduman SHS and Nkawie Secondary/Technical School placed third and fourth, respectively, with 68 and 56 points. All the first four schools have thus qualified for the Super Zonals of the competition which is scheduled for the latter part of March, this year.
