Ghana celebrates World Athletics Day

Accra, April 26, GNA - The Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) has outlined a two day Juniors Athletics competition to celebrate this years "World Athletics Day" at Koforidua in the Eastern Region.

The celebration, which will be held from May 6-7, will see young athletes between the ages of 14-15 and 16-17 participating in events such as 80, 100, 150, 200, 400 and 1000 meters and field events such as long jump, shot put, javelin and race walk.

A statement signed Mr Emmanuel Oteng Aboagye, Secretary General of the Association in a Press release copied to the GNA Sports said winners of the two events would be considered for qualification to the International Amateur Athletics Federation "IAAF World Athletics Day Draw".

The statement said the winners will be invited to the famous IAAF Super Grand Prix Meeting in Monaco, in August this year. The cost of the trip, which includes air fares and accommodation, will be covered by the IAAF.

The statement asked all interested athletes within the two age groups to contact the Regional Development Officer or the Physical Education Organiser in Koforidua.
