Simpson Nearly Quit Ghana For Mauritius

Ghanaian heptathlon gold medallist at the All-Africa Games Margaret Simpson has revealed she nearly changed nationality to represent Mauritius before the games in Abuja.

Simpson told JoySports that Mauritius had offered her a house, a car and 5,000 dollars monthly salary to switch her allegiance to them. She admitted it was an offer that tempted her.

“Given that we don’t get much support in Ghana, I was really tempted by the offer”, she said. But after a conversation with Ghanaian sports officials she changed her mind and is now insisting she would stick by the motherland for good.

“I had a number of grievances but the authorities have assured me that they would attend to them promptly.”

Poaching athletes has become commonplace in the athletics world these days. But it has mostly been done by the more advanced and rich European and Middles East countries at the expense of African states
