New record set in Inter-Colleges Sports Festival

Hohoe, Feb. 19, GNA - Prosper Gbeti of Peki Training College (GOVCO) set a new record in the men's 1,500 metre race on the first day of the Volta Region Inter-Colleges Sports Festival at Hohoe on Monday.

He beat his old record of four minutes 31.81 seconds set last year to an improved time of four minutes 13.8 seconds and was by Felix Attafoe of Dambai Training College (DATCO) with a time of four minutes 22.08 seconds while Peter Amuzu of Akatsi Training College (Akatsico) came third with four minutes 26.4 seconds.

In the women's division, Juliet Adzakpa of GOVCO came first in five minutes, 37 seconds while Hilda Asamani of DATCO followed with five minutes, 38 seconds and Mabel Darkey of GOVCO placing third with five minutes 38.84 seconds.

In the football match, the host school, Saint Francis Training College (FRANCO) at Hohoe beat DATCO by 2 goals to nil.

Opening the festival, Mr James Komla Dogbe, Hohoe District Chief Executive (DCE) called on the sports men and women to be disciplined and to compete and win through fair means.

He advised the students not to use the festival to engage in promiscuous activities since this would encourage the spread of HIV/AIDS disease.

Colleges taking part in the festival are FRANCO, Saint Theresa both at Hohoe, Dambai, Amedzofe, Peki, Jasikan and Akatsi Training Colleges.
