Canadian athletes to visit Ghana

Accra, April 2, GNA - Four Canadian athletes would pay a four-day visit to Ghana as Ambassadors of their country from Monday, April 7 to Thursday, April 11.

The visit of the ambassadors, which is under the invitation of Right To Play, an athlete-driven international humanitarian organization that uses sport and play as a tool for development of children and the youth, would afford the athletes the opportunity to visit the organization's projects in the country.

The visit would also enable them to share their personal experience on how the sport has shaped their lives with the youth. The team to be led by Clara Hughes, would include Emily Brydon, Steve Omischl and Mellisa Hollingsworth.

Mr Tanko Azzika, Programmes Manager of Right To Play who announced these in Accra on Wednesday, said the team would visit the PRESEC Basic School at Madina, Gomoa Buduburam Camp and make a courtesy call on the Canadian High Commissioner.

They would also call on the Minister of Education, Science and Sports, the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and the Northern Regional Minister. Mr Azzika expressed the hope that the visit of the athletes, who would be taking part in the Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, Canada in 2010, would serve as inspiration to the Ghanaian youth to excel in sports and education. 2 April 08
