Readers, I've been accused of looking down on the people of Nima because they are "poor". I'm therefore forced to defend myself at the risk of revealing who Chaka is. Please bear with me. I can easily be identified, especially by readers from Upper East, Accra and Kumasi but that's OK because I don't want to appear to be boastful. I'm giving you my humble contributions, in the past, to alleviate the abject poverty in which these "unfortunates" grapple with and for you to judge me of the accusation.
Rasheed do you know poverty? I'll tell you about poverty. I will take you to where real poverty is - places a lot of Ghanaians would never dream of visiting. Poverty? If there is any in Nima, it's a child's play! I'm a southerner (Kabonga) proudly married to a Kusasi so I'm safe to say that I'm not tribalistic; tribalism is out! It doesn't fly with me. I got out of school when Kutu was our President. Guess my age. B4 coming to poverty, let me state here that I'm not a politician, not a doctor and neither am I a military guy but these are my physical handshakes with some top "brass" IN THEIR OFFICES - in Ghana and in Africa: IK Acheampong, Akuffo, Rawlings and Limann; Charles Taylor and Prince Johnson in Liberia and Paul Kagame in Kigali, Rwanda. Am I blowing my cover? Back to what I'm being accused of - poverty!
I lived in Bolga for 4 years. You go to the North with humility and you're accorded hospitality, respect and love. Go with your southern ignorance and you are shunned! Rasheed, do you know the deadly disease called CSM ( Cerebral Spinal Meningitis)? Quick research and I'll come back to it. I've seen abject poverty, traveled to the remotest parts in the Northern, Upper West and Upper East regions. You've never heard of a place called "Overseas" in the Upper East, have you? Few people have. I've been there. CSM and poverty called me there as well as to Garu, Garu Timpani, Bawku, Nanpanduri, Nalerigu, remote parts of the Upper West and Northern regions in a bid to bring to the fore, the plight of these unfortunate people and ask for assistance from NGOs and the world in general. CSM is highly contagious and deadly, comparable to ebola but I was in the midst of it. I've spent time at hospitals full of CSM victims. It was an extremely risky experience but I was there. Travel to some of these places and on your return, your wife can't recognize you unless you mention your name!! You're virtually "exhumed" from dust but that never deterred me. Enough with poverty and disease! Rural electrifications, regional conflicts - Chaka was there! Global conflicts: Civil war in Liberia pulled me there. That's how I met Charles Taylor and the rebel leader, Prince Johnson. In the 90's, I was in Kigali, Rwanda in connection with the genocide on the ticket of UNAMIR (United Nations Assistance Mission In Rwanda) and that's how I met Paul Kagame. I attended General Anyidaho's welcome party at Kigali. I know my cover is blown but that doesn't bother me, I'm defending myself of looking down on the poor.
Readers, those of you who've identified me please don't give out my name but tell Ghfuo and Rasheed that I'm not tribalistic neither am I unsympathetic to the poor. Lastly, please ask them to behave themselves at this forum. Thanks for your time.
