Atsu dazzled fans in his maiden appearance for Blackstars in one of our Afcon qualification matches in Kumasi and I thought we had another Polo but he has not been able to duplicate that performance and was a huge disappointment for the Afcon.
He is still young and can become one of the best footballers to come from Ghana. He just need to build his confidence up because he has all the tools to become a great soccer player not only in Ghana but globally.

Yes, a lot depends on the Coach to bring the best out of his Players but the Player too has to do his part.
Where I think the Coach might be blamed is playing Atsu out of position or system used. Atsu does not play well in counter attack system. He thrives well in attacking system. The Coach needs to find Atsu's comfort zone and position and utilize him effectively.

Sammy, do you truly believe Appiah is capable of doing that? Finding ANY player's comfort zone? and "...utilize him effectively?" In what kind of game plan, APPIAH's "Obuasi Hail Mary Hide Behind Players" formation?
Don't kid yourself. This coach do not see a talent, even if that talent hits him in the face--either because he is blinded by favoritism or he is just plain ignorant.
He talks about building a team. A national coach do not build a team.
A national coach searches and monitors players where ever they may be, and assemble them (for an average of one month) for a particular tournament and then, they are gone until the next tournament.
In the interim, you would lose some of your team through injuries, club inactivity or other matters. So, you continue to look for more talents to monitor for the next tournament. These days, it is easy to do that. You could first take some suggestions from the 15-plus Ghanaian "coaches" from around the world by simply reading forums like this website. Then, you could watch videos, or watch them in person.
At the end of the day,you are not training them. They have already been trained--beginning with their parents, through colt football, schools, academies, and professional league clubs. They already know what to do.
Your job is to assemble the right mix of our IN-FORM professional players for the tournament.

Don't you idiot come up again and tell me why the national Coach don't put the players in the same positions they play in their various teams.
If Atstu is playing for his club in a 4-4-2 formation but Blackstars plays in a 5-3-2 formation, he will be playing in a formation out of his comfort zone and it is up to the Coach to convince him or boost his morale up that he can thrive in a formation he is not comfortable playing.
Atsu for instance does not play well in counter attack formation. He plays very well in an all formation, 4-3-3

Atsu could be a frightening dribbler to mark on any day but my fears about him was confirmed when he indicated in a recent interview that he doesn't like to play in counter attacking system. Do you know why? because he doesn't like to defend. He only wants to attack. In high level football matches, this weakness will be exploited. Abedi dribbled and defended when needed even as nomber 10. Atsu must organised his play around the team to get the necessary team results else his dribbling, individualism and all that will lead to nothing

Dede to some extent is close to the strength and speed of his dad but his skills are behind.
Relatively, it is easier to work on one's strength and speed than skills. I therefore believe Atsu have brighter chances of becoming the next Pele.
