We are going for the ultimate in Brazil - Gyan

Captain Asamoah Gyan says he expects Ghana to rise up to the challenge and impress again at the 2014 World Cup.

The Black Stars will be making a third successive appearance at the World Cup when the tournament kicks off on June 12 in Brazil.

Ghana has been Africa’s brightest light at its two previous finals in 2006 and 2010 in Germany and South Africa respectively.

The Black Stars will however be facing their greatest ever test at the finals having been drawn in an acclaimed group of death alongside Germany, Portugal and USA.

But skipper of the side Asamoah Gyan expects the Black Stars to live up to the billing again whenever the stakes are high.

“The thing about Ghana all the time is that whenever we play against a big team, we perform,” he told Accra-based Asempa FM.

“That is what happened with us when we were going to the 2006 and 2010 World Cups.

“And that is what happened with the Egypt game [World Cup playoff] where everyone got involved.

“And I believe it will happen again at this World Cup.”

Ghana will open its World Cup campaign on June 16 against the USA in Natal before taking on Germany and Portugal in the subsequent Group G matches.
