Wakaso returns to Espanyol with fever excuse

Ghanaian midfielder Mubarak Wakaso finally returned to his club early Friday with the excuse of suffering from fever as the reason for his delay in returning after participating in the just ended Cup of Nations with Ghana.

Wakaso was due to resume training on Wednesday after the Africa Cup of Nations but rather returned on Friday at 10.30 am (08.30 GMT).

Speaking to Catalunya Television, Tv3 upon arrival at the El Prat Airport in Barcelona, the 22-year old midfielder justified his delay was due to a fever which he had duly informed his coach Javier Aguirre.

He met with the club’s Sports Director Oscar Perarnau, and the first team coach, Javier Aguirre, who expressed their displeasure about his returning to the club two days after the set return date.

His explanations reportedly did not convince the club’s officials and have left his case to coach Aguirre, who will decide when the group returns from Sunday’s game with Real Betis.

Wakaso is due to be slapped with a fine which shall be determined based on the rules of the club.

He was then allowed to train alone at the Ciudad Deportiva de Sant Adria de Besos under the supervision of one of the first team coaches.
