Rabui to miss Ghana-Egypt?

Ghana’s influential midfielder Mohammed Rabiu is likely to miss his side’s vital World Cup qualifying playoff at home to Egypt next month after picking up an injury on Thursday.

The 23-year-old sustained the injury while playing for Russia’s Kuban Krasnodar in a Europa League game against Swiss club St Gallen. He was replaced after 20 minutes.

“The injury of Rabiu is unpleasant for us. Maybe he will be out of action for 5-6 weeks,” Kuban coach coach Dorinel Munteanu was quoted as saying by Ghanasoccernet.

“We just got this player. We were very much looking forward to his contribution to the team so we have to look for another option.”

Ghana host Egypt on 15 October in Kumasi in the first leg of the World Cup qualifying playoff. The return leg takes place in Egypt in November.

Egypt are eyeing their first World Cup appearance since 1990 while Ghana are seeking to reach the tournament for the third consecutive time, having reached the quarter finals in their last appearance in 2010.
