Olympics supporters call for truce

Accra, Jan 13, GNA - Accra Great Olympics Supporters Union (AGOSU) has asked all stakeholders in the club to desist from issuing statements to the press over disagreements on matters affecting the club so as to prevent an escalation of problem that could derail preparations of the club towards next season's premiership.

In a six-point resolution adopted at the end of a supporters' union forum held at the Legion Hall at the weekend, the union said press statements could provoke proponents of opposing views into issuing counter declarations, which would hamper the progress of the club and called on the main actors to pipe down and ceasefire.

The supporters called on the council of patron to ensure that the restructuring of the operations and management of Olympics should be completed by Saturday, January 17, 2004 by which time a new Board of Directors and a Management team would be named.

They are also asking for the definition of roles of the various structures including the Council of Patrons, Management Committee, Supporters, Old Players and the families of the Founding Members among others, as suggested in the constitutional amendment suggested by Mr. Richard Oblitei Solomon, the immediate past chairman of the management committee.

Another demand of AGOSU is that a meeting of all stakeholders be convened within two weeks to deliberate on how to prepare the players for the impending league if their deadline on the appointment of Board members and management committee members is not met.

The resolution affirms the commitment of the supporters to contribute "to the best of our capabilities to ensure a cup success to crown our 50th Anniversary celebrations."

In addition, the supporters want the authority of the chairman of the Council of Patrons to be "the final arbiter in the battle to restructure and reorganize the structures and activities of the Club." The final demand of the supporters aimed at maintaining peace in the club as they resolved "to ensure that peace prevails in the club during the upcoming season, to ensure once again the successful celebration of our dearest club.

Signatories to the resolution included Mr. Samuel Wellington, Mr. Jacob Vanderpuje, Mr. Lawrence Wulf and Mr. Boye Mensah among others.
