Nyarko Asks To Leave

Ghanaian international Alex Nyarko has been placed on the transfer list at Goodison after he indicated to club officials that he wanted to leave Everton.

The 27-year-old met manager Walter Smith on Friday afternoon, after being allowed time to consider his future following the unsavoury incident he was involved with at Arsenal last month.

After the game at Highbury he announced he wanted to quit football and while he has reversed that particular decision, he remains adamant that he does not want to play for Everton again.

Manager Walter Smith told the website: "We have had talks with Alex this morning and the upshot of that is he has indicated that he would like to leave Everton, so the club have placed him on the transfer list."

The Blues' Boss is understandably disappointed that the former Lens midfielder's spell on Merseyside has not worked out as planned.

After joining the club last summer for ?4.5 million, the early signs were encouraging, however, after suffering with an injury at the end of last year, he has struggled to get his Goodison career back on track.

"I think it is always awkward for any player to come from another country and settle right away," continued Walter.

"In the early part of the season he was playing well and then he got an injury which kept him out for a couple of months.

"Unfortunately the incident at Arsenal made him want to leave the club. We have agreed to that and have transfer listed him."

Walter added: "It is disappointing when you bring a player in as you always hope that it works out and I am sorry that didn't fit into our set-up.

"But he is a good level of player and I am sure we will have a lot of interest in him over the summer."

Despite the high-profile situation Nyarko has been involved with over the last few weeks there has not been any contact from clubs in England or on the continent regarding his availability, though that should change in the course of the coming weeks.

"There has not been any interest and I don't think we could have expected any," said Walter.

"Now that it is becoming evident that we are prepared to let him go and he is on the transfer list, maybe that will bring in a level of interest."
