Gulden Tulip wins Colt Championship

Golden Tulip of Accra on Saturday defeated State Envoys of Kumasi by a lone goal in the Under-17 soccer finals to win this year's 10th Milo Colts Soccer Championship held at Sekondi-Takoradi.

Centre forward Tabbilisi Bakaya fetched the lone goal in the 22end minute.

For their prize, they took home 1.5 million cedis, 23 gold medals, two cartons of Milo products, a set of football jersey, two footballs and Milo T-shirts.

In the Under-14 category, Golden Boys from Accra emerged winners when they defeated Corners Babies of Kumasi 6-5 on penalties after the two sides have drawn 2-2 in regulation time.

They also took home one million cedis, Milo products, 23 gold medals, T-shirts, a set of jersey and a silver Cup.

Christopher Nana of Golden Boys and Peter Essien of Sekondi Junior Juventus emerged goal-kings at the Under-14 and 17 respectively. They scored seven goals each.

Corners Babies from Kumasi and Feyeernord Academy from Gomoa Fetteh in the Central Region picked the fair-play prizes for in categories respectively.

Madam Sophia Honer-Sam, Deputy Western Region Minister, at the end of the Championship, appealed to football clubs to assist the young players to develop their talents.

She called on companies to support juvenile football "for it is the only hope for the future".

Mr Patrick Ofosu, Group product Manager of Nestle Ghana Limited noted that the patronage of the games and support from the various professional footballers demonstrate that juvenile soccer has future.

He hinted that Nestle would sponsor next year's championship slated for Ho in the Volta Region.
