Three splendid saves by national goalkeeper Memunatu Sulemana, was all Post Ladies needed to lift the Greater Accra Women Soccer knock -out finals trophy when they defeated defending champions, Ghatel Ladies by 3-2 on penalty's at the Accra Sports stadium on Sunday.

The defending champions playing under their favourite duo colours of blue -yellow jerseys did not play exceptionally well to beat Post who was bent on winning their first cup in many years.

Having the best of the exchanges, it came as a little surprise when Mary Ashong shot Post ahead in the 20th mark after she and Nana Ama Gyemfua of the Queens fame had shuffled well upfront with a one-one combination and displaced Wilson in post.

Post Ladies fought hard to maintain the lead till the half mark. Prior to the goal, Helena Wilson in post for Ghatel came to their rescue when she made two timely saves for her side after their defence, which occasionally got disorganized, had committed two free kicks close to their goal.

Yearning for the equalizer, the Ghatel attack opened fire on Post from recess and in 63th minutes had the much awaited equalizer when national utility star Genevive Clottey scored from the penalty spot.

The game became a ding-done affair with both teams creating some decent chances but could not convert them into goals.

When referee Vivian Aggor ushered in the penalty kick for the decider, it was goalkeeper Sulemana who, to the ecstasy of the partisan fans, firmly stood between Ghatel and victory when she saved three of the kicks to win the day for Post Ladies.

Both teams were presented with twelve Black Queens T-shirts, courtesy of the management committee of the Women Soccer Committee led by Mr Sylvester Mensah, the chairman.

Meanwhile, Mr. Edmund Agyemang Duah, a patron of the Greater Accra Women Soccer league (GASOWC) donated a wall clock and cedis 300.000 to Clottey who has retired from active football.

Ghatel also presented her a jersey with the player's favourite number 15 inscription at the back and a trophy.

The player told the GNA Sport after the game that she felt honoured by the gesture and promised to bring her experience to bear as she takes the back stage.

Clottey who has played twelve years of active soccer said she wanted to give other young players the opportunity to don the national jersey and contribute their quota.
