Does Kotoko need coach Kenichi Yatsuhashi?

As humans we must always learn from our past....

Kumasi Asante Kotoko is gradually finding her feet in this season’s Ghana premier league. The club found herself at the bottom of the league log after the sixth week. This resulted in the club’s management team, led by Opoku Nti, asking the substantive coach David Duncan to “step aside”.

Based on this, assistant coach Michael Osei was tasked with the responsibility of coaching Kotoko. Under Osei, Kotoko is gradually finding her feet. Kotoko from the bottom of the league is now lying 8th on the league meaning Michael Osei together with his assistants are doing well.

It is obviously true that, when Kotoko is handled by old players, the club performs better. This is an indication that the club does not need David Duncan or any expatriate coach.

On the other hand, why must it take Otumfuo to always come and solve ‘petty’ troubles in the club, when He has delegated people to handle the club?

What then is the essence of the Board?

Looking back at the history of the club, Kotoko always performs better handled by a caoch who has played Kotoko before.

I do not want to believe Kotoko are courting Hearts of Oak’s coach Kenichi Yatsuhashi. I pray the Kotoko hierarchy, not to ‘ever’ condescend to engaging the coach. I believe the coach will put up the same attitude when Kotoko engage him.

I pray Otumfuo, the Board and Management team to work together and focus on moving the club to achieving its aspirations.

Kotoko has been here before and I dare say it looks as though Kotoko has not learnt any lessons from her past.

Long live Otumfuo!!

Long live Asante Kotoko!!
