Ghana U-20 coach Sellas ‘Bobor’ Tetteh has his eyes set on one of the FIFA world cup slots at this year’s African Youth championship (AYC) which began yesterday in Senegal.

Ghana’s Black Satellites take their turn in the eight-nation tourney today in a Group B fixture against South Africa’s Amajita before facing Mali and Zambia.

Coach Tetteh, in spite of his pedigree on the terrain, sounded cautious, and said winning the ultimate came second as far as the team’s ambition in the tournament was concerned.

He revealed that the team’s primary focus was to qualify for the World Cup and then they would think of the trophy at stake in the Senegal championship.

The 2009 World Cup winner expressed confidence in his squad but did not rule out the fact that hard work would be a factor if they would succeed in this year’s competition.

He told Ghanafa.org, “Our first objective is to qualify for the World Cup.

We want to be among the best four and then we can start thinking about the trophy.

“It will be disappointing if we don’t qualify for the World Cup but we shall work very hard and we hope to do very well and achieve our target.

“But we need to keep working hard. We all know how football is; it is a game which is very difficult to decide, but we believe that we have worked very hard and we are ready. We have to keep working hard and if we do, we believe that we would be among the best.”

The top two teams in each group will progress to the semi-finals and also represent Africa at the FIFA Under 20 World Cup later this year.
