Ghana call 27 players for Chan preps

A first batch of 27 players will begin preparing for places in Ghana’s team for the 2016 Chan qualifiers on Monday.

The list drawn by head coach Maxwell Konadu, also for preparations toward the 2015 Cosafa Cup in South Africa (in May), is strictly made of high performing players in the ongoing First Capital Plus Premier League.

Former Maritzburg United and Ashanti Gold lead striker Yakubu Mohammed and Medeama SC forward Nathaniel Asamoah made the list.

Fatau Dauda, part of Ghana’s silver medal winning squad at the 2015 African Nations Cup, is included in the squad, as are Daniel Agyei and Stephen Adams, who have both been capped at full international level.

In-form Bechem United midfielder Noah Martey has been called up, as have Heart of Lions midfield dynamo Isaac Twum and Olympics forward, Francis Attuquaye, who scored twice as Great Olympics thrashed Asante Kotoko 3-0 in the Independence Cup match on Friday in Accra.

New Edubiase United midfielder Alhassan Nuhu received a call up, but twin brother and club captain Fuseini Nuhu was surprisingly omitted. The six-goal scorer is however expected to make the second batch.

No players from Asante Kotoko or Hearts of Oak were called up because both teams will be engaging in continental competition next weekend.

The Black Stars team ‘B’ will be using the facilities of Ghana Premier League leaders, AshantiGold, in Obuasi for their camping.
