Black Queens sure to qualify

The newly constituted national women’s soccer team the Black Queens is determined to qualify for the African Women Nations Cup next year to be hosted by Nigeria.

Aware of the task ahead of them as they prepare to commence the qualifying series, the Queens hurriedly plunged into camp under the tutelage of coach PSK Paha.

News reaching Herald Sports indicate that the Senegalese women national squad, the Queen’s first hurdle is leaving nothing to chance as the squad is preparing feverishly for the qualifier and wield enough flair and aggression to confound any stubborn defence.

Coming immediately after the sterling performance of the men’s senior national team, the Teranga Lions, at the just-ended World Cup, which discarded their unenviable tag of perennial under achievers on the African and world stage their female counterparts would want to prove a point. With the exodus of most of its players, the Queens’ the technical crew has put in a lot of effort to revamp the Queens whose defence seems impregnable.

A visit to the Queens’ base at Winneba and the seriousness shown by the squad sends right signals that the ladies are in for business.

According to the head coach Paha, after the final audition they should be able to parade a formidable squad to see Ghana through to another African Nations Cup slated for Nigeria. For now the Queens is not a side without quality materials. In Gladys Quansah and Fatu Mohammed, the team has the safest pairs of hands supported by a watertight rear of Lucy Takyiwaa, Patience Kpobi, Diana Annan, Aminatu Ibrahim, Akua Anokyewaa, Yaa Aoe and the purveyors for goals will fall on midfield gems Memuna Darko, and Sheila Okine while in attack the likes of Aikins Gloria, Mavis Djangmah, Henrietta Mould would hold the fort. As part of preparations to test the battle readiness of the side, the Queens will take on a division two side based in Akwatia on Thursday. Last week, the Queens played Swedru division two side Rangers and lost 0-4.
