Where is the authority of the constitutional government in all this? Are the students going to have a make up day for missing school on this day?
So who really rules Ghana; the traditional leaders or the constitutionally elected government. If the Asantehene wants to leave a true legacy for his reign, he can start by scrapping all these outdated and outmoded customs and traditions that only retard and not promote progress.

Several years ago, my people could do anything in the Ashanti forest and get away with it. Today, news in instant everywhere. The world is watching live through Facebook, Twitter and what ever. This senseless waste of time over an 80-year old who died "can't-even-remember-the-date" ago, is a disgrace to Ghana. Stop the foolishness in the name of culture. This is no culture. Why the fuck wouldn't students go to school because some old lady has died? What's the death got to do with their education - and the tuition they paid?

Who shut down a factory with a bioreactor for such a closure?
The funeral could have be done smoothly without closing down schools and businesses.

What are the reasons for this action? GES must have reasons I believe lead to their action. I remember when the Okyehene Nana Ofori Atta died in the late sixty and the school authorities stop all permissions to the students to go out of our secondary school(Suhum Sec Tech School premises. No official explanation was given but we the students suspected that the Akyems were still sacrificing humans for their dead chiefs to serve the chief in his next world!!! Remember 'WELEMPE' tradition of the Akyems? Just ask your Akyem friend to tell you about 'welempe' and other human sacrifices. JB Danquah was instrumental in the murder of Odikro Ayea Mensah, the chief of Apegywa. With these barbaric practices by the Akans, especially the Asantes and Akyems, I am not surprised that GES decided to shut down schools to protect the pupils/students' security and safety. Particularly, those who in Kumasi and around Kumase neighbourhood are more at risk. But it doesn't stop the 'aplafuor' from going outside Kumase to get human heads for the rituals though.

In this 21st century ....we are still talking about tradition goes on....awww I am soo shocked and no wonder Ghana is still poised with these cultures that infringe on our right and responsibilities as Ghanaians. Imaging the whole Ghana Education Service shutting down schools ,because of a death person...!
I really disagree on that, the kids must be in school as protection to that said funeral...on going ,but rather left to be in the house with their parents, why , wont the be found mingling and walking way wardly in town and at the funeral grounds.
GES please do we really know the future of these children, as any unnecessary event we try to shut down schools...? are we serious at all....
Even in the civilized world....when President J.F. Kennedy died...children attended school...because they really know the best thing to do.
If our ancestors were to come back to advice us...they will regret for us still following those old...unecessary and EVIL tradition...which never HELP n ad DEVELOPMENT of the EARTH....but...!
