Even in the rare instance when politicians – NDC politicians, have good intentions they dont do it right.
The long-held necessity and desire to expand the Accra-Tema motorway to better handle the growing numbers of vehicular movement and the difficulties that is has created for commuters and businesses alike, has seemed like an eternal pipe-dream.
Politicians never get it right. It may have appeared sensible to expand the motorway into a 6-lane road about 20 years ago. Today one can only say to this revelation of a 6-lane expansion that it is the height of stupidity that will amount to, too little done too late.
My contention is that if the Accra-Tema motorway cannot be expanded into a 10 or at the very minimum, an 8-lane lane highway to deal with the current massive traffic that plies on it today and the inevitable need to also take into consideration a greatly increased volume of vehicular activity on that highway in about 2, 5, 10 or even 20 years, then that incompetent Fiifi Kwettey boy should just forget about wasting our money on a project which is already out of date even before it has begun.
When one has to spend huge amounts of money to build public projects, it is my understanding that this should be done to take care of impending monumental challenges and not the nagging difficulties of the past.
Knowing the NDC, it would not surprise me that the stated amount money that has been voted for this project is probably money for a 6-lane project design as against the declared 4-lane project. The balance of it will be quietly creamed off to organize a festival-like election campaign that will aim to buy off a disenchanted electorate to vote for people who have failed them big-time.
