The affected students should be made aware that Cape Coast policy on academic work has been very "Chisel" since time immemorial. UCC has even become flexible in recent times. During the good old days of BUBRA, Obtaining even a Second Class in Chemistry was almost a dream. If in the Third year, one failed just a paper, there was no room for a rewrite. The person was repeated. Ask Those who passed through the hands of Prof Dadson(Prof BAD). At Cape vars, you need to always burn the midnight oil because they don't play. Mess up and they will dismiss you.

These students failed; not once but twice! This means they never had any grade near excellent (1st class) to pass (Mostly E grade in our system)as you are suggesting.
The over all effect of their failure is the training of students how to fail exams and that brings series of challenges to the nation. So, you George are rather looking at it in a myopic manner.

Teaching should not be made a life time job. It is rather a stepping stone to get into other institutions. We have people in the judiciary, the clergy, the police, doctors, in the parliament and a host of them who were once teachers the more reason why students are made to sign a bond to serve. In my opinion, examination as means to measure the standard of a student is not always right and you can debate.

Are we still using slave era training college curriculums and education setups in Ghana? Should training college students not take all the basic prerequisite courses to senior level specializations? If so why is a failure at the teaching examination result in starting all over? Do students not earn all prerequisite grades in all required subjects? Why should a failing student not be allowed to change specialization midstream? Why should students and parents be made to pay twice? Do we ask secondary school students to start over if they fail on two attempts to enter the U?

Note that the curriculum being used is one of the finest and robust; check that of UK. Are you comparing that with any country's? Well, if it is the US, then sorry because US educational system is far less than UK and other countries; google it!
Remember, Ghana is not training teachers to come and teach students how to fail examinations. For your information, this policy has been there before the introduction of diploma issuance, for it is just now receiving press reportage.

In any case, who determines the pass mark of a student in a Tertiary institution? Isn't his lecturer?
So, juxtapose that the student passes all his resit papers but then his lecturer chooses to fail him due to a reason known the lecturer, should such a student be sacked because his lecturer has failed him?
I can say that government is not being faire with the teacher trainees and I think those who came out with this policy should come again. This policy is bogus and sounds preposterous in the ears of every rational human beings.

If you have time,you go to tertiary institutions and see how some of the students are putting up overthere-grown ups who are supposed to be learning are involved in all sorts of things. Some of them do not even go for lectures;assignments are done and submitted by friends;indulging in occultism;prostitution left right and center;
THIS IS GOOD A POLICY and must be implemented at all cost to put sanity into the system.
