What the Ghana Police urgently needs at this present moment in time is a Primary School where the entire Police force - including the IGP, can attend and be taught how to read, write, speak elementary English and most importantly of all, be taught basic manners, civility and common-sense.
From the era of the 1st Republic in the early sixties when the Ghana Police service was globally adjudged to be one of the most disciplined and efficient in the world, their performance and image has slid into oblivion as one of the worst. The blame squarely falls on Harley and Deku for introducing indiscipline andv sedition into the body corps of that unfortunate institution.
Of course today, we cant fully blame the Ghana Police per se for their unacceptable posture because, the influencing factors of equally incompetent and corrupt govts during their period of decline, were the major factors that led them astray.
As for the Police University bit, please forget about it. It is a distasteful joke.

This is unprecedented and just goes to show the unjustifiable rush to create colleges and universities by Ghanaians at every opportunity...this idea is ridiculous and a duplication of what the universities we already have are doing...teaching criminal law..they are equally capable of teaching policing methods and procedures. The police academy is doing a good enough job of teaching would be police officers the fundamentals of policing... Upgrading it to a university is wrongheaded and won't serve any useful purpose...at all besides inflating the ego of the IGP and his ilk.....

An opportunity to expand police training to ensure maximum safety and security of the citizenry and you are talking trash. This will attract young students to specialised in various fields such as forensics, homicides, school and campus policing and many that are currently not available and being exploited by armed robbers, assassins, political criminals etc.
It is also an avenue to have more employment for the youth after graduation. There is nothing wrong with creating more productive universities or colleges for the population of the country is growing, so is the qualified entry level student population.
Won't you be happy if you have well trained police force in the country at every corner?

This is going to be a WASTE AND WASTE OF THE TAXPAYER'S MONEY. If training is what they want, why can't they OUTSOURCE that aspect to a well resourced university or institution?
Universities are the vogue in Ghana so the Ghana Police also thinks they have to establish one. Why can't the strengthen the various college and institutions they have?

Go to any police station in Ghana and you will see how dirty and dilapidated they are, worse than a kitchen in a remote village. Can't this resources (if any) be used to improve these rat-infested police stations?
